A Mallorca Book to Quench Your Thirst and Feed Your Wanderlust Mallorca has long been celebrated as a beautiful holiday destination. Yet, who could have predicted in the mid-1980s that this beloved island of Germans and British would evolve into a haven for wine enthusiasts? Initially, only a handful of wine producers and around 500 hectares of vineyards, some more cultivated than others, dotted the landscape, despite Mallorca's history of supplying wine to France a century earlier. However, a transformation ensued. The island's distinctive limestone and marl soils, some enriched with iron, provided a fertile foundation. With pioneers like Ferrer, Ribas, Miquel Gelabert, and later Anima Negra gaining international acclaim, oenologists and investors began to recognize the untapped potential of Mallorcan viticulture. Today, over 100 bodegas tend to more than 3000 hectares of vineyards. Among them, some produce wines renowned worldwide for their nuanced and refined styles. It became evident: the time had come for a comprehensive, meticulously researched, and beautifully photographed wine book that delves into the island's viticulture and the people who have dedicated themselves to it. It explores their dreams, ambitions, and the remarkable dynamism that has infused cosmopolitan allure into this small island. A serendipitous encounter brought together three editors, each an expert in their domain, complemented harmoniously by graphic designer Julie Finkel. Together, they have skillfully presented text and images in a manner that captures the essence of the island's charm.
